The Shires of Luscombe was established in 1992 and we bred our first foal in 1993. The horses we use for breeding are either imported or from imported bloodlines.. We reintroduced the grey Shire back into Australia in 1996, with the importation of the grey mare Middlecott Victoria, who was in foal at the time,she was the first grey shire in Australia since the 1920’s. Our Stallion Luscombe Whats Wanted (Ted as he is known) was the foal she was carrying. We also have imported frozen semen from the outstanding English shire stallion Ddrydwy Drayhorse Ace of Spades, he is jet black with 4 white feet and a blaze. The shire had died out in QLD in the late 1930’s and we were the first Shire horse breeders in QLD to re-establish the breed here. Our stud is dedicated to breeding quality purebred Shire horses. Our stallion Ted remains the only shire to have successfuly bred a shire foal using embryo transfer in Australia.
